The DOE will be launching technology courses for teachers across the city come September 2007. In order to survey your needs and interests, list the skills, applications or things that you would like to learn in terms of using technology in the classroom with your students.
Please be honest.

Teachers need more hands on experience using technology.
I agree that all professional development should include a hands-on component.
What specific topics or areas in technology would benefit teachers when teaching with technology?
For example:
Podcasting with Students.
Creating a collaborative learning community.
Using Power Point in the Classroom.
Please add to the list. Thanks!
For music teachers - consider teaching them the program SIBELIUS and FINALE.
They are great programs and resources for students.

I would want to learn html. My school is a CTE school, so they learn a lot of things and I'm usually clueless to what is going on. Html and java.
I wouldn't mind learning more about what we discussed in this class, to better ensure my knowledge of the material.
Also I would like to learn about smartboards, because our school just got one. I heard it's a great tool, but I don't know how to use it.
I think the technology is extremely useful, however I teach 3rd grade and think that many of these skills are very difficult for 8 year olds. I would like to learn how to get them to easily navigate specific web pages.
I feel teachers should be given free workshops on these free resources for technology. Additionally, like my peers have posted I feel the focus for teachers should be on hands on learning of these materials.

I do agree with the others, we need to have professional development which involves hands on component...
We need to be on the band wagon so lets all learn the new technologies!
The technology are the powerful tool for supporting both teaching and learning.
I want to learn more baout how to draw, how to create cartoon movies, and how to using more multimedia tools in my classroom.
I have learned about almost all the applications and technology that are useful in the classroom. However I would like to have hands on with the document camera that is used to project students work.
I agree with the others also.. we definitely need a hands on component...the schools we work at should offer professional development workshops using computers..... I also would like another course on what we learned as well the use of smartboards
The technolgy that I learned in this class can enrich my skills of teaching in the class.
I would like an encore of the last two weeks of instruction of this course 784.2.We need more training
on how to create a collaborative learning community.I want to learn more about linking the different websites. More hands-on exercises are definitely needed.
This course was a tremendous help in introducing technology to the class room.
In the first half I learned how to teach using power point, videos and interactive web sites. I will definitely pass this on to my colleagues, but I am not an expert. So I propose that professional development courses on teaching with power point and Ed Online be given. Also we could use lessons on the smartboard. Since teachers are on different levels of familiarity with the computer, I suggest that different levels be offered as well.
I think it would be great to offer a PD about teaching the basics of MS Office to our students... similar to what we did in this course. Great project ideas, assignments, walk-throughs... stuff like that.
In terms of geography, there needs to take place training in using and implementing Google and Geographical Information System to engage students in map-making skills of data other than countries, populations, or elevations. For example, students can taught to map their route to and from school or some aspect of their lives. In the process, they can add data and information that traditional maps may leave out.
I feel that I am confident with the skills I have learned this far, however I would like to build on the foundations of what I have learned. I think additional practice with technology will be very useful.
Providing skills to our teachers by allowing the use of technology creates an environment where our children are more likely to grow up using technology.
I think educators need to work together so that more teachers are provided with opportunities of having technology be present in the classroom.

What I would like to be offered concerning technology:
-- I think these should be cross platform for both PC and Mac users--- I would have loved having a Mac available during the course this summer-
* Creating websites
* Making podcasts and blogs
* Creating movies
* Using a smartboard
* MS Office
* Using multimedia tools such as digital cameras, video cameras, document cameras, and projectors.
And as many of my peers said these courses should be free and widely publicized and this is the technology age and we need to incorporate tech more often into the classroom.
Thanks for reading!!!
--- See you in September ---

I think that teachers in general need to learn more about Excel specially to do their grades, power point for presentation, microsoft word with for smart board lessons or internet pages. Math teachers need to just go back to school for a few semesters to learn basically from scratch the new technology tools if do not know it. That is what I am planning to do. I do not think that I can any longer teach Math which is the foundation of science and be illiterate in computer science which is a direct application of what I teach.
I don't know what I can add to what other people already said. I agree that teachers need to be knowledgeable and skillful of computer technology especially internet. That doesn't happen until either students all have computers at home or schools are equipped with necessary devices. Currently, I don't think every school is equipped with computers in each classroom. Having one or two labs is not sufficient to accomodate every student in a school. My wish list is at least 10 computers in each classroom with internet access and software needed for classroom activities. Internet is good, but we also need various software and training workshops for teachers.
