Please post your thoughts about today's lesson and visit www.isafe.org to get the latest information on cyber safety.
Using the Internet is the way of the future. Our students are digital natives and the Internet has become a large part of their everyday life. Taking away the Internet is not an option. We are all stakeholders when it comes to our students/children.
As an educator, what can you do to keep our students safe when they are online.

After this evenings lesson on internet safety the one word that describes what I have taken with me is empowerment. I feel that the knowledge I have learned today about internet safety is very empowering to teachers, parents, administrators and especially our students.
As educators , regardless of grade level or content area, we want to teach our students to be responsible citizens. Internet safety will teach students how to surfing the internet in a productive and responsible manner.
For those of us who are pressured by the curriculum internet safety lessons are great on days before vacations or half days.
I think what was shown in class today regarding internet safety is key to not only our students, but also to us as educators. We need to be up to date with the latest technology and be aware of what our youth may be faced with.
To better educate them, we must better educate ourselves. We definitely could use the isafety lessons and implement them, perhaps like towards the end of the year.
Keeping children safe is part of our daily routine. One of the most effective ways of doing this is giving them knowledge. Knowledge such as that which was given to us today in class will most certainly help to protect tons and tons of children. Once we educate the parents who are not as technologically savvy as their children we'll have an even more secure barrier to protect them. information is the way to go concerning everything.
I think that today's lesson was important to all of as as parents as well as educators.
Today's lesson on internet safety really shrd a lot of light on a lot of things i had no idea of.
As teachers I feel that it is part of our job to ensure that our students are safe at all times, that is in school as well as out of school.
Parent coordinators should definitely hold these work shops to educate parents and teachers. This is something which definitely needs our attention
I've seen my students share information on the web... I've seen them follow junk links that take them to illegal sites with tons of pop-ups... I know this stuff is out there... Educating these kids by using a program like i-safe is not only good to do in a classroom, it is our responsibility... For the most part, my students' parents are from the Carribean and know far less about computers than my students do. Teaching them the ins and outs of internet safety is vitally important to the safety of their children.
I personally think there are too many sick people out there and I am willing to take any step there is to protect my students, or any child for that matter. I am looking forward to bringing this information to my school-as I hope to spread the awareness. The public school has to teach about HIV and AIDS to the students, I dont uderstand with internet safety isnt mandatory also. I hope to educate as many people as I can!
I've never taken cyber safety seriously before. After the workshop & thinking about how much my students spend time on the web exchanging personal information, I came to realize how important it is to educate them about internet safety. I also want to plan a workshop for parents on September.
Any thoughts? Cybersafety for Young Students
The lesson on internet safety is of relevance to the 21st century learners. Technology becomes part of their learning tools and it is tremendously abused by the youths and even some of the adults.I wish to learn more about internet safety.
I have always been aware of the importance of Internet safety.
I live with my two younger twin sisters and they are always on the computer. My parents, not really being educated on all of the things the Internet has to offer, has forced me to step forward and educate my sisters.
About a year ago I found out they had a page on Myspace. Knowing that members were required to be at least 14 years of age; I was outraged. Apparently, they had become members by lying about their age.
I explained to the both of them how there are crazy people out there and how strangers could view their pages, find out information about them, and use it to hurt them.
Although my sisters still have a Myspace page, they are now blocked so that only their friends can view their pages.
In regard to the children we teach; most school have some type of safety on their computer which does not allow access to particular sites. I think one of the most important things that educators can do is educate the parents of these students. Many of the parents are unaware of what their children are doing.
Michelle .........I believe that the internet safety was very educational. It is important to know this as educators as well as teaching it to our students that we work with. One of our jobs as educators is keeping our students safe.
I hope that all of us that attended the Isafe class will share the information with all peer professionals, whether in the school system or not. In this way we can spread this knowledge to all professionals, parents, and thereby, the children we will be teaching.
I find it also imperative to show the students the lessons from isafe and STRESS the importance of internet safety!!! Even though the videos gave me the creeps, I feel that the students, in having similar feelings, will be much more inclined to practice internet safety.
Most of our students do not know that online is dangerous. As teachers, we have a responsibilty to let them know their situations. ISafe is a very good website that I can show to my students.
I think that isafe is an eye opener to parents, teachers and srudents. All schools need to plan workshops for parents to update them about their child's safety in using the internet.
Although I did not get my certificate in class I will still register at my own convenience.
I feel as an educator it is our duty to keep students safe. Since more and more students are beginning to use the Internet as a means of communication/meeting new people we should expose them to the danger of communicating/meeting with strangers on the Internet. I feel isafe is a great tool to use to keep our students safe. It is very informative about the danger of the internet and gives students real life examples of situations they may encounter.
Isafe should be introduced to all grades, parents and staff in schools buildings so everyone is aware of students safety when they are online.
Edy Rameau
If we are going to teach our students to be critical thinkers, internet safety is the ideal topic for that matter. It is connected to real life and affect them directly. Videos made by peers such as those seen in the workshop will definetly educate them better than any teacher's or parents' warnings. I also believe that internet safety should also be taught to some soft-minded adults. I am sure that a lot of them are very naive when it comes to assessing the dangers of the internet.
Kids are kids. Sometimes they just do not know how to protect themselves from getting hurt. Therefore, as educators, it is necessary for us to teach them how surf on the Internet safely, especially they all belong to a high-tech generation. In the small class I am teaching, there are 24 children, and 22 of them have computer and Internet service as home, although they are just arranging from 9 to 11 years old. They are well-behaved and academically successful students. Still, some kids try to get their classmates’ e-mail address through the discussion section on my wikispace. Also, another kid posted a message, "click here for a new free i-pod" to gain more views. After I deleted his message and told him that it is illegal to post such a fake commercial online, he got scared. The little boy said he just wanted to get his friends attention. I could understand that all children want to have more friends. Meanwhile, I recognized that they need some directions from their parents and their teachers to use the Internet safely. They got to know they should not tell each other anything about their phone numbers, addresses, e-mails and SS numbers, and so on online. They got to know they can refuse to answer many questions while should never make up fake information online either.
In the “announcements” part of my wikispace for this young group, I have urged them to go learn something about Internet safety with their parents at isafe.org already. Hopefully, these children will grow up quickly and safely. =)
